project india

The mission of FIRST is to grow STEM worldwide, which is why the Robostangs initiated a plan to promote STEM in India.  We were able to accomplish this mission with the help of two key mentors, Mrs. Gonuguntla and Mrs. Doshi, as well as the India STEM foundation. The Robostangs played a key role  in the startup of 3 new FLL teams in India partnering with TIX Robotics, located in Hyderabad, and The Podar World School, located in Sama-Vadodara. We provided funding but more importantly we created a sustainable FLL pipeline model in India.  We are already working on expanding our partnership with the other two branches of the Podar international School and working with TIX Robotics in creating new teams.

During the season and offseason the Robostangs mentored each of these teams weekly via Google Hangouts. The sessions took place on Robostangs team members were recruited to develop curriculum to teach the India teams how to build mission models and program them.

Over the past year, Team 548 has seen each team’s gradual growth in our weekly sessions, and each has blossomed into very capable teams. Their first FLL tournament took place on January 21st at the Ahmedabad Regional and on February  4th at the Hyderabad Regional.

In the 2017-2018 season...

the Robostangs organized the largest FLL Jr. Expo in Northville to date. In the past 5 years, this expo has grown to be one of the largest in the state, with teams coming from Detroit and even Port Huron. The Robostangs mentored 18 teams, 5 in Northville, and over 20 came to showcase their efforts.

The Robostangs sponsored three teams in total, two of which are brand new. Two of these teams are located in Hyderabad; one team is comprised of 10 boys and the other, 10 girls. This is the first ALL GIRLS team to participate in a FLL competition in South Central India. The team located in Sama – Vadodara consists of 7 boys and 3 girls. In collaboration with the India STEM Foundation, which played a key role in assisting the Robostangs to help sponsor these teams, we successfully provided assistance in terms registration fees, EV3 kits, expansion sets, chargers and mats. More importantly, Robostangs team members leading this project have been supporting, guiding and mentoring them each week via Google Hangouts before and during the current season. We mentored them once a week on Wednesday mornings during seminar, and occasionally we conducted additional meetings on the weekends.
